Capitalism, Pharma and Prostitutes

Behind capitalism there is a good economic and financial mechanism for productivity, efficiency and resource (re)allocation. The key is what is the goal that this mechanism needs to achieve? Whether this mechanism is used as a tool or as a ultimate goal?

The reason why the pharma industry (or health industry overall) functions no differently to tobacco or car or weapon industries is because they all use pure profit as the ultimate goal and use the same mechanism. Then why shall the pharma industry complain that they have a bad public image or reputation?

In China there is a saying that goes 既要做婊子又要立牌坊 (She who wants to be a prostitute also wants a memorial of virginity). I think that the Chinese figured this all out thousands of years ago. Fortunately despite all the camouflage and PR of the pharma industry, people are not easily fooled.
